Another Day in Punjab: Amritsar

Had a lavish breakfast at Keys Hotel, Ludhiana in the morning.... Fantastic.... Chef really knew how to make eggs but faltered in Dosa.... Well you cannot really expect experts on southie food.... enjoyed it... ICAI had a fantastic deal also in terms of rate... worth it.

Went to West End Mall for shopping... seemed more like the regular weekend trips to malls in gurgaon... pretty good. Never planned for a movie but saw TRON.... Nice animation... missed seeing the original movie which was made nearly 30 years back... Thats on my TO DOs for coming week.....

Drove out of Ludhiana about 3.30 pm... took ages to reach Amritsar.... Traffic was real bad in Ludhiana.... CA Hukminder Sahi was really graceful host and followed up many a times to ensure that all the things for our stay in Ludhiana were perfect... and that we have planned properly for stay / tourism in Amritsar... Thanks Sahi sahab....

Will continue in my next post... Wifey calling...

Incredible day

First of all... its hearening to write the blog after so many months.... atlast a break from regular hum drum of life... Drove down with wifey to Patiala day before yesterday... only the delhi part was maddening... took about 2 hours to cross gurgaon and delhi... after that it was breeze.... roads were so good that we reached patiala in 3.5 hours after exiting delhi... i.e. ~ 200 kms...

Branch had fixed up a nice hotel... Grand Park... Chairman (Ajay Singh) and Secretary (Munish Sood) of the local branch of ICAI played gracious hosts.... Enjoyed good dinner with their families.... Food was fantastic... really nice paneer dishes... Hotel was also good... stayed overnite.... One side of the room had only windows and overlooked the main crossing..

Ajay mentioned that the Branch has approx 220 CAs... out of this about 50 odd turned up for the gathering... Dr. Raj Singh, ROC was the Chief Guest and a good man... After reaching the venue I realised that I'm the only speaker... Munish quietly told me to run the session atleast for 1 hour, which was not a problem (considering my experience earlier in Chandigarh, where session of 45 min had ended in 30 min due to my incorrect estimation)....

Post lunch drove to ludhiana..... roads in Punjab are really good... maalum nahi kaun si chakki ka tar coal daalte hain... reached in about 1 hour...  Here the branch is much bigger... about 1200 CAs... The Auditorium had a seating capacity of 500... this was the depressing part only a tenth were there.... well "Corporate Governance" is also a dry topic, but cannot help it if the Ministry of Corporate Affairs want it, they get it....

One really good part is that these sessions forced me to take a break... so am now off to other parts of saadda punjab....

Hyderabad.... after a long long time

Only nasty part is the Jap lady who is doing my audit (so to say) and dunno what she is looking at... maybe she has big surprises in store for the evening... Lets wait and watch....

Long time

Quite a long time since I updated my blog.... Was stuck on a pretty demanding assignment... Also made a day long visit to Bhopal... It has been quite hectic since past 3 weeks, with no bloody personal time-off...
Well recessionary times!!!
Had gone to a party on Friday nite in the club with two of the collegues... Had a good drink (apparently the Master Bartender of the club - Ashok has now perfected his art)... It was a sexy Jamaican Margerita... Enjoyed it on friday nite... but then had a massive hangover on saturday... Virtually spent the whole day sleeping...
Went for a long drive today... Quite sunny... with chilled beer for company...
Deadly combo...
Cheers Guys!!!

Doggy Doggy

Well...lot has been written about how Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire is a fantastic film and definitely has done India a lot proud by winning a record Seven Oscars'....

No doubt winning that beautiful statute is a dream for any film-maker but are we not taking it a bit too far....

I do not find the movie any great... it actually is quite disgusting in its portrayal of people living in Dharavi's slums and glorifies their hardships and problems... In my view it is quite demeaning... I could not digest that movie... Infact after seeing the promos of the movie, I had waited for the DVDs to come in the market and chanced to see a pirated version at one of the business locations... definitely proved me right.... no point in wasting money in going to a multiplex for the pic...

Anyhow this is the topdog of the day after winning the Statutes... and as they say "Make Hay While the Sun Shines"...

Justification for Actions

When One does any thing or take any actions which are of no concern to others.... Does one need to justify that??
My emphatic answer is NO......
If one has a mind of his own and think that his actions have no impact on life of other people, in my opinion, it does not require any kind of justification to be given to others.......

Cheers

Weekend in winter

Dunno about all of u, but i like to enjoy my winter weekends... some days without any buzzing of cell phone or telephone, alone with a well stocked kitchen and a good book to read... Will come to review of the books in one of my later blogs but this was one of the pretty good weekends I had spent at home.. The only place I wandered to was not more than 1 Km away, i.e. my dad's home under construction... rest spent peacefully in catching up on sleep or reading or looking out of the windows trying to figure out who was the babe up at 7.00 AM in one of towers of my apartment complex.. phuh.. atleast now I apparently have some motivation to water the plants in the morning (with water)... huh...

Trust Me

One of the highly pathetic novels which I chanced upon. I had thought that since Indian authors have come a long way, this will be good but sadly mistaken. Rajashree, the author does not seem to have a sense of how to write the story.
Paro, the protogonist of the story, is characterised as a looser. She befriends a cameraman... goes and gets pregnent and then a abortion, but still cannot get away from thoughts of the chappie. Her boss makes passes at her... she moves out and starts working with a film production as Asst Director... here one stud of a supporting actor woos her and like a typical hindi movie, they live happily ever after........ HOW BORING THE PLOT CAN GET....
Have a drink and hit the bed. Gotta think of ways to recover the money spent on the novel (maybe go and throw this back at the book-seller at New Delhi Rly Stn or ask him to refund atleast part of the money or ask raddiwalah for atleast some good amount of exchange rate)...

Empire strikes back

A fundoo cocky cocktail!!!
Pour 30 ml Vodka in the salt rimmed tall glass
Add: 30 ml Gold Tecquila
10 ml Scotch Whiskey
15 ml Lime Juice
5 drops Worcester Sauce
Top the glass with Cranberry Juice
Stir, Drink and CHEERS!!!

Ajbapur, Rupapur and Shahjehanpur

One hell of a day... Spent the whole day in merry go-round... reached shahjehanpur at 4 in the morning, went to client's plant no.1 at 5 AM, planned to go to plant no.2 by 3 PM but due to wicked thinking (pun intended) had to take a long detour of about 70 KM via plant no.3 & 4 (i.e. additional 2 hours journey on bumpy rural roads)... ultimately now sitting on shahjehanpur station waiting for good old shramjeevi express to come...
Can someone suggest a better day???

One hell of a week

Last week has been quite happening, rocking, eating, traffic burdened, traveling and being bombarded by Satyamoid....

What happens when you get to hear that one of the largest company's stock has fallen 94% due to a fraud perpetrated by Management, coupled with a hard hit client (who since he knew that you were a auditor of that company at some point of time is out to give you a 3rd degree) along with maddening travel plans (to lovely city of Kolkata with all the mishti that world can offer) and parents' visit to your sincerely's abode (u gotta spend time on cleaning up)...

Delhi's traffic is definitely not making things easier... I had to commute to parts of Central Delhi (CP) and South Delhi (Nehru Place) virtually on a daily basis last week and it was surely not easy. Well I guess it is going to get worse. Infact we should change the working times... lets say start the day at about 8 AM and close by about 5 PM (!!!).

Satyam: Effects on an Ex-Auditor

Today.. Satyam's Chairman wrote a honest letter to Company Board and SEBI / Stock Exchanges... Being earlier a part of PwC (currently the auditors of Satyam) and being a part of the audit team for Satyam about 8 years back, I guess substantial part of my CV will have to be knocked off... Lets wait and watch......

Ofcourse I love you till I find someone better

Hi... I had a chance to read this really funny novel by Durjoy Dutta and Maanvi Ahuja yesterday on my way from delhi to baddi and back... I would recommend that all of you read this book... Is written in simple english with specific reference to habits of dilliwalahs... One minor thing... authors have gone beyond Mr. Khushwant Singh and many other after him in usage of expletives...

My first post

Hi there all of you ladies and gentlemen... in this blog you will be tolerating my experiences in life, at different places where i go to, or people i come across / interact with... I love to party and create cocktails (ofcourse with a proper naming ceremony)...

This new year I had spent partying in my society's club. One of my very dear cousin's whose wife is abroad had come over... Met lot of people in the society who were retired army officers or pilots... Somehow watching them suited booted gave me a royal complex (i was boozing in a simple jeans / t-shirt)...

The first day of this year was spent in getting over with the after effects of the new year dinner... Another cousin had dropped in on 1st day of the year... We spent fair bit of the time in chatting over and gossiping about the family and friends... Also, designed two new cocktails (u will need to tolerate the recepies in next post)...

Bad part was that the next day, early in the morning I had to go to Baddi (an industrial town near Kalka) for a meeting at a textile client of my firm. Funnily at five in the morning, there was no fog in Delhi, which is when I had driven from my home in Gurgaon to New Delhi Rly Stn, while the train got delayed by about 2 hours due to fog (principally due to fog between Delhi and Panipat)... I never knew that HPMC sells quite a variety of Fruit Wines. Unfortunately we reached the selling point half an hour late and missed it... Now I will have to bully one of my team mates to share his booty with me (infact the buggers took home close to 22 bottles in their previous visit)... The next day was a very uneventful Saturday... Went to a shopping mall -- bummed around alone and then came back home to again go to club for playing a game of squash.... had no energy to play for more than 20 minutes...

Tomorrow, have to work on some of my client's work (it is really pathetic working on a sunday) but then else I'll meet my deadlines... Anyhow.. sleep time fellas... catch all of u sometime in coming week with more interesting ancedotes and less about booze...
